Reclaiming the original message of Jesus of Nazareth
Robert Perry has been a student, teacher and interpreter of A Course in Miracles for several decades. He has written numerous books on the subject and is widely recognised as a knowledgeable and erudite teacher and speaker. In 1993, he founded the Circle of Atonement to support and guide students of A Course in Miracles.
Alongside his involvement with the Course, Robert has had a deep and longstanding interest in the figure of Jesus, whom A Course in Miracles identifies as its author. As he explains in the introduction to The Teacher:
“Through all the changes in my beliefs, I somehow never questioned that Jesus was the central figure in the world’s past and future. I couldn’t shake the sense that he was the most perfect thing to ever touch the planet”.
Robert left the church, but he never left Jesus. Over the years, he came to understand that the Jesus of A Course in Miracles and the historical Jesus of the Bible were, in his view, one and the same. His quest to uncover the real Jesus led him to explore the work of renowned historians, delve into the scholarship surrounding Jesus and examine the Gospels. He sought to distinguish sayings that could plausibly be traced back to Jesus from those that might reflect the thinking and beliefs of the times in which the Gospel accounts were written.
Rather than attempt to summarise what is already explained in the book, I encourage you to read The Teacher for yourself. Whether you are Christian, a former Christian, of another faith, agnostic, atheist, or simply someone interested in learning more about Jesus, I believe this book has something to offer you. While there are many writings on the subject of the historical Jesus, I believe Robert Perry, through his meticulous approach, has revealed to us the wisdom teacher who has always been there in plain sight.
The Teacher is available worldwide through major Amazon regional stores. You can also read reviews of the book.
For a further exploration of the historical Jesus, this podcast discusses who Jesus was before Christianity.
